Book a weekly workshop
In Term 4, UNDERARTS will step outdoors. Young people will create an original performance inspired by the grounds of Balam Balam Place, transforming the space into a festival-like event. Together we’ll explore site-specific performance, myths, and world-building strategies to invent a new work that responds directly to the environment around us.
This term involves 10 weekly workshops every Thursday afternoon/evening from the 9th of October to the 11th of December at Balam Balam Place.
Kids: 4.15 – 5.45 pm (8–12 year olds)
Teens: 6.00 – 7.30 pm (12–18 year olds)
The end-of-term performance will be held outdoors at Balam Balam Place on Saturday 13th of December - a celebratory event for families and the wider community. Expect a lively atmosphere where theatre, storytelling, and creativity spill into the open air.

UNDERARTS is a dynamic, creative space where bold ideas take shape through collaboration and risk-taking. Each session is fast-paced and fun - filled with theatre games, improvisation, and the chance to develop original characters, scenes, and concepts from scratch.
Every voice counts. Young people can contribute in ways that excite them - whether that’s performing, writing, designing sets and costumes, working with sound and visuals, or shaping the overall creative vision.
This process builds towards a unique site-specific presentation, where ideas developed throughout the term come alive in an outdoor, festival-style performance.
At UNDERARTS, we believe the creative ideas of young people are powerful and important - genuine contributions to Melbourne’s contemporary performance scene.
-
All workshops in Term 4 will be led by Allison Wiltshire, co-founder of UNDERARTS, alongside another experienced facilitator (TBA). Allison brings over a decade of experience as a theatre director, dramaturg, and educator, including seven years working in Berlin’s independent performance scene and leading inclusive, youth-focused creative projects in Melbourne.
This combination of artistic expertise and teaching experience ensures participants are guided through a supportive, high-energy process where their ideas are taken seriously and developed into bold, original performance.
